SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It’s like giving your website a little help so that Google (or other search engines) can find it more easily and show it to people who are looking for things.
Imagine you’re in a big library, and you want your book to be found first. So you:
• Give it a clear title.
• Use words inside that match what people search for.
• Make it neat and organized.
That way, the librarian (Google) knows your book is helpful and puts it at the top of the shelf where more people can see it.
At Tech4Eleven, we always build our websites in such a way that search engines can pick them up but there are some additional steps that we can help with or suggest that our clients do to help get found.
Here are some steps we recommend taking:
1. Update or create a free google business listing https://www.google.com/business/ making sure to enter in your domain name
2. Do the same with Bing: https://www.bingplaces.com
a. Doing steps 1 and 2 here allow you to have control over what information google and bing search engines show to searchers so its highly recommended.
3. Add your domain name to your Facebook page, instagram and every other social media outlet possible
4. For more advanced SEO (search engine optimization) you can look into paying for google ad words.
I always say that if your domain name is brand new, it can take time (up to a year sometimes) before you see your website in search engine results but doing these steps here can help and sometimes speed up that process.
Did you know that adding a list of “keywords” at the bottom of your website won’t significantly help your site be found by search engines like Google? Did you know that buying multiple domain names similar to your main one won’t actually help your website be found? These tactics used to be common in the early days of SEO, but search engines have become much more sophisticated. Think AI, right?
