Ok, So watch out ’cause this Safari is Quick

Cory Blog, Mac, Software, Windows

The new safari 4.0 beta is insanely fast (thanks to my brother for the heads up). What’s new you ask? Well for starters, there’s a new engine under the hood. According to Apple, it’s called the “Nitro Engine:”

Using the new Nitro Engine, for example, Safari executes JavaScript up to 30 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and more than 3 times faster than Firefox 3 based on performance in leading industry benchmark tests: iBench and SunSpider. In addition to superior JavaScript performance, Safari offers top-flight HTML performance — the best on any platform — loading pages 3 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and almost 3 times faster than Firefox 3.

Also on top is Top Sites-looks like cover flow for your browser. The Smart Address Bar and Search Bar is pretty sweet. Also the tabs have moved to the top. You’ll just have to check it out.

So I’m “trying” to make the effort to convert from my long time favorite browser Firefox into Safari. So far my only struggle is password management. In FF, I can force a website to remember my password (http://monthsforever.wordpress.com/2008/10/02/force-firefox-to-save-passwords-simple/) but I can’t do that (yet) in Safari. So we’ll see what happens. But I’m saying now, that I LOVE the speed.

disclaimer: Safari is fast, but so is my laptop. Take into account that I’m running Safari 4 on a macbook pro with 10.5.6 and a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2GBs of RAM.
